Select the calculator you need: lot size, position size, or pip value. All calculations use standard XAUUSD contract specifications.
Calculate the right lot size for your XAUUSD (gold) trade from your account balance, risk percentage and stop loss distance.
= 50 pips · 500 points. The price distance from entry to stop. Example: entry 4,150.00 and stop 4,145.00 = $5.00 (50 pips in our signals).
Rounded down to 0.01 lots so you never risk more than planned.
Based on 1 lot = 100 oz. Gold "pips" are not standard: our signals count $0.10 as 1 pip, while some brokers count $0.01. Always size from the dollar distance and check the contract size with your broker.
Follow these simple steps to calculate the right trade size for your gold positions.
Select from three tools: Lot Size Calculator to size your trade by risk percentage, Position Size Calculator to calculate lots from dollar risk, or Pip Value Calculator to find the value of each pip.
Input your account balance, risk tolerance, stop loss distance, or lot size depending on which calculator you are using. The tool calculates results in real time as you type.
Use the calculated lot size or pip value to place your XAUUSD trade with proper risk management. Pair it with United Kings VIP signals for optimal entry and exit points.
Learn how pip value works for gold trading and why it matters for your risk management.
There is no single standard for a gold pip. Our VIP signals, like many traders, count a $0.10 price move as 1 pip, so gold moving from $4,150.00 to $4,150.50 is a 5-pip move. Some brokers and websites call $0.01 a pip (often a "point"), which makes the same move 50. To avoid mistakes, always measure your stop in dollars of price movement.
Gold is easiest to size in dollars. 1 standard lot = 100 troy ounces, so every $1.00 move in price is worth $100 per lot. Value of a move = lot size x 100 x price move. At 1.00 lot, a $0.10 move (1 pip in our signals) is worth $10 and a $0.01 move is worth $1. At 0.10 lots, a $1.00 move is worth $10.
Gold is volatile and can easily move $10 to $30 in a single session. If you trade 1 standard lot, a $20 move equals $2,000. Knowing what each move is worth helps you set sensible stop losses and position sizes to protect your trading capital.
| Lot Size | Contract (oz) | 1 Pip ($0.10 Move) | $1.00 Move (10 Pips) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.01 (Micro) | 1 | $0.10 | $1.00 |
| 0.05 | 5 | $0.50 | $5.00 |
| 0.10 (Mini) | 10 | $1.00 | $10.00 |
| 0.50 | 50 | $5.00 | $50.00 |
| 1.00 (Standard) | 100 | $10.00 | $100.00 |
| 2.00 | 200 | $20.00 | $200.00 |
| 5.00 | 500 | $50.00 | $500.00 |
Key principles for choosing the right lot size when trading gold (XAUUSD).
Professional traders risk no more than 1-2% of their account balance on a single XAUUSD trade. Use the lot size calculator above to find the exact lot size for your risk tolerance.
On a $1,000 account, 0.01 lots means a $1 move in gold is worth $1. A $10,000 account can carry larger sizes. Always match your lot size to your account balance with a proper calculation.
The wider your stop loss, the smaller your lot size should be. A 100-pip stop loss requires half the lot size of a 50-pip stop loss to maintain the same dollar risk.
XAUUSD is more volatile than most forex pairs. Daily ranges of $20 to $40 (200 to 400 pips in our signals) are common. Factor this volatility into your lot size and always use a protective stop loss.
Advanced traders split their position into multiple entries. Instead of entering 1.00 lot at once, consider three entries of 0.33 lots at different levels to average your entry price.

Common questions about the XAUUSD calculator and gold trading calculations.
Divide the money you are willing to risk by (stop loss distance in dollars x 100), then round down to 0.01 lots. The 100 comes from the contract size: 1 standard lot = 100 troy ounces, so a $1.00 move is worth $100 per lot. Example: $10,000 account, 2% risk ($200), entry 4,150.00 and stop 4,145.00 ($5.00, which is 50 pips in our signals): lot size = $200 / ($5 x 100) = 0.40 lots.
For 1 standard lot of XAUUSD (100 troy ounces), a $1.00 move in price is worth $100. If you count $0.10 as 1 pip, as our signals do, 1 pip is worth $10 per lot. If your broker counts $0.01 as 1 pip, 1 pip is worth $1 per lot. For a mini lot (0.10), a $1.00 move is worth $10; for a micro lot (0.01), it is worth $1.
It depends on how the pip is counted. In our signals, and for many traders, 1 pip = $0.10, so $1 equals 10 pips. Some brokers count $0.01 as 1 pip, which makes $1 equal 100 pips. Either way, a $1.00 move on 1 standard lot is worth $100, and on 0.10 lots it is worth $10.
With a $1,000 account and 2% risk ($20) per trade, the lot size depends on your stop distance. With a $5.00 stop (50 pips in our signals): $20 / ($5 x 100) = 0.04 lots. With a $10.00 stop: 0.02 lots. With a $20.00 stop, even 0.01 lots risks the full $20, so that is the widest stop this account can take at 2%. Never risk more than you can afford to lose.
The calculator uses the most common XAUUSD contract: 1 standard lot = 100 troy ounces. You enter your stop as a dollar distance, so it works whatever your broker calls a pip. Some brokers and account types use a different contract size (for example 1 lot = 10 oz, or cent accounts), so check the symbol's specification in your platform before trading.
When you get a XAUUSD signal from United Kings, take the dollar distance between the entry and the stop loss (for example 4,150.00 to 4,145.00 = $5.00) and enter it in the Lot Size tab, or enter both prices in the Position Size tab. Our signals count $0.10 as 1 pip, so a 50-pip stop is $5.00. The calculator then gives you the lot size for your balance and risk.
The XAUUSD lot size calculator is an essential tool for any gold trader who wants to manage risk properly. Whether you are a beginner learning how to trade gold or an experienced trader optimizing your position sizing, calculating the correct lot size before every trade is a fundamental step in professional trading. XAUUSD, representing the price of gold in US dollars, is one of the most popular instruments in forex trading due to its volatility and liquidity.
Position sizing is arguably the most important aspect of risk management in XAUUSD trading. Many traders focus solely on finding the right entry point but neglect to calculate how much they should actually trade. Using an XAUUSD position size calculator ensures that each trade risks only a predetermined percentage of your account balance, protecting you from catastrophic losses during volatile gold market sessions.
Understanding XAUUSD pip value is crucial because gold behaves differently from standard forex pairs. While most currency pairs have a pip value of roughly $10 per standard lot, XAUUSD has a pip value of $1 per standard lot (with 1 pip = $0.01). However, gold moves significantly more pips per day than most forex pairs, often 200-400 pips daily, which means the dollar impact per trade can be substantial. This is why precise lot size calculations are so important for gold trading.
